What you need for this ZOOMdo:

  • pan
  • liquid laundry starch
  • water-based tempera paints
  • plastic straws
  • hair pick or a plastic fork
  • construction paper
  • newspaper to cover your work surface

What you do for this ZOOMdo:

  1. Pour laundry starch into pan until it is about 1/4-inch thick.

  2. Dip a straw into the paint and gently flick the paint over the surface of the starch (it will float on top). Try using a few different colors.

  3. To get swirls in your paper, take a fork or hair pick and comb the surface a couple of times. (If you do it too much, you get a muddy brown color.)

  4. Take a piece of paper and gently place it on top of the starch and count to 3.

  5. Carefully pick up the paper and lay it down flat so it can dry.

  6. Try it again with different colors.
