Supplies

  • Shoe box
  • Glue or tape
  • Safety Scissors
  • Construction paper
  • Colorful felt
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Yarn
  • Reusable scraps such as magazines, bits of fabric, cotton balls, buttons, aluminum foil, sponges
  • Sprout logo

Instructions

  1. With the help of a grownup Sprout, cover the inside of the shoebox with blue construction paper – this will be the sky. Use light blue for daytime or dark blue for nighttime.
  2. Glue cotton balls to the blue paper to make clouds or add aluminum foil stars if it’s night.
  3. Cut hills out of cardboard and cover them with construction paper, felt, or fabric. Be sure to work with a grownup Sprout when cutting cardboard.
  4. Add your hills inside the box using glue or tape. Three sets of hills usually look best – high in the back, medium in the middle, and low in the front.
  5. Use your imagination to make a scene inside the box by adding a sun or a moon, bushes and trees, animals, rocket ships, or anything you’d like!
  6. Be creative to use different things from around the house in new ways. You could use a yellow lid from a jar to make a sun or a green sponge to make a bush.
  7. Make your scene come alive by using yarn or a pipe cleaner to hang objects like birds from the top of the box so it looks like they’re flying!
  8. To finish your official Sproutorama, be sure to print out the Sprout logo and add it to an object in your scene. Then, take a picture and send it to Sprout!
