Supplies

  • Aluminum foil
  • Foam, or newspaper
  • Oven mitts, two per team
  • Cardboard boxes or baskets
  • Small prizes

Instructions

How to Prepare:

  1. Prepare by creating foil balls that will be your asteroids. Wrap strips of foil around pieces of foam or crumbled up newspaper , covering completely and pressing into lumpy balls. Make enough for one per guest for this game.
  2. Form two or more teams and ask Sproutlets to line up at whatever distance you think is appropriate for your age group, handing each child an asteroid.
  3. Place empty cardboard boxes at one end of your playing area, across from your teams. You can decorate the boxes with paint, paper, or simply wrap the boxes in foil to add to your themed décor!

How to play:

  1. The first child in line will put on a space mitt (An oven mitt!) on each hand like an astronaut, pick up the asteroid with their space mitts, and run to the cardboard boxes carrying the asteroid.
  2. If they drop it, they may pick it up wearing the mitts and keep going!
  3. Each child drops the asteroid in the box, runs back to the team and hands off the space mitts to the next child in line
  4. The next child puts the mitts on and carries the next asteroid to the box. This continues until every team member has had a turn
  5. The team to finish first wins!
