Pingu's Sugar Cube Igloo

Kids can make these igloos even on a hot summer day – no snow required.

Materials

  • Paper plate
  • Sugar cubes
  • White icing
  • Dried, shredded coconut

Instructions

This activity can be done individually or in groups.

At the party:<

  1. Each child spreads a circle of white icing on a paper plate.
  2. Lay sugar cubes end to end to make most of a circle. (Don’t forget to leave a space for the door!)
  3. Spread more icing on top of the layer of sugar cubes.
  4. Place another row of sugar cubes on top of the first, making sure to indent them a little so they hang over into the center.
  5. Spread more icing on top and keep going until the walls of your igloo meet at the top.
  6. Make a door out of a few more sugar cubes and icing.
  7. Allow the igloo to dry, and then sprinkle with shredded coconut to create a winter scene.

Although the ingredients are edible, this is an art project – not a snack!
