Farid uses his invention to count minarets.
Watch Postcards from Buster on PBS Kids GO!
FARID: Hi, Buster. How are you?
BUSTER: Great! Hey, is that a telescope?
FARID: Yeah. I'm trying it out. It's a new invention.
BUSTER: You actually made that yourself? Wow! What are you looking at?
FARID: I'm looking at Old Cairo from over here.
BUSTER: Could I look through it? Cairo sure has a lot of minarets. We hiked up one earlier today.
FARID: They used to call Cairo the city of the thousand minarets because it has more than 1,000 mosques.
BUSTER: I wonder how many you can count from here.
FARID: One, two, three, four, five... 997, 998, 999, 1,000. There, I counted them all.
BUSTER: What's that sound?
FARID: That's the call of the mosques for prayers. You hear now? The thousand minarets are calling. Very beautiful sound.
BUSTER: It really is. It's like you can hear Cairo talking.
