Luge

Lugers Emily and Jenn We're Emily and Jenn, and when winter comes, we don't just go sledding, we LUGE! Luge is one of the fastest sports on ice. We're always looking to improve our race time. We started thinking more about how to improve when we visited the New York Hall of Science. They have a pair of slides at their outdoor Playground Science exhibit. Going down the slides made us wonder: Can we improve our start times by paddling more with our hands?

How would you investigate this question?
Imagine taking a ride down an icy hill on a super sled... Yeeha! Besides thinking about how fun that would be, how would you turn that fun into a cool science experiment? Think about the tools you need to measure how fast you are going, and how many times you want to paddle. Does the weight of the rider make a difference? Make a plan for dealing with other variables like that one. Describe your investigation in your notebook an discuss it with your teacher, or got to Luge to learn what Emily and Jenn discovered.
