"My sister smokes and ever since she started to, she can't do all the stuff we used to. We used to swim together on teams and solo. We also used to walk and run together, but now we can't because she gets out of breath and just doesn't have the energy or desire she used to."

"My mom smokes and I'm worried about her health. She's going out to smoke right now."
--Nicole, 9

"I feel that it is bad for you because my dad smokes outside the house. It is also bad for your health."
--Tina

"I think smoking is bad. Not only can it hurt you, but also the people you smoke around. For me, I am in an environment where people I know and live with smoke. My mom smokes but only when she hangs out in Philadelphia (our family lives there). I have friends who smoke but when they are asked, they will lie to you saying that they have never smoked. While I do have other friends who don't smoke, I believe that it is wrong for people to smoke and it is becoming easier for minors to get cigarettes. If someone were to ask me if I wanted to smoke, I would just give them a simple no thanks and walk away."
--Jay, 13

"If someone asked me to smoke, I would definitely say no way and try to help them stop."
--Leah, 11

"I think that smoking is a nasty habit and should be illegal. If someone offered me a cigarette, I would probably tell them that I have better things to do then to waste my life smoking."
--Ashley, 13

"I would just ignore the person."
--Sara, 11

"I think smoking is bad for you and once you do it it's hard to stop. If someone offered me one, I would say, 'No thank you. I don't smoke because I know what it can do to you.'"
--Salicia

"I think smoking is something really stupid. People kill themselves slowly, but they also hurt people around them. I'll always be a smoke-free person because I love and respect myself. I'll also be a smoke-free forever because I don't want my baby (the one I'll someday have) to die or get sick. If someone offered me a cigarette, I'll tell them that I'm smart enough to know what is going to hurt my body. I'll tell them that I like my white teeth and the way I smell. At school, many people want to be 'cool', but they only make a fool of themselves."
--Andrea, 12

"If I was offered a cigarette, the way I would turn the person down is to grab the cigarette from the person's hand and put it out. Then, I'd tell them the bad things smoking can do to them."
--Lindz, 12

"I'm disgusted with the people who smoke! I learned that when you smoke, your voice gets all raspy, because it's so hard to breathe with crispy lungs. If someone asked me to smoke, I'd say, 'No way, I'm growing up and I want to live for a long, long time!'"
--Brittany, 11

"I have been against smoking for my entire life. I just want to say to the kids in the world who want to try it, don't."
--Josh, 12

"I feel that smoking is very horrible. I think someday in life, they will make smoking illegal. If someone offered me a cigarette, I would turn them down by saying no and leaving it at that.:) Never smoke and never forget it!!!!!!!"
--Bethany, 11

"My mom is taking a medication to help her quit smoking. Talk to your mother about a medication for her and get lots of research about smoking so you can help her quit. If she would have known these facts, she might have not started. Maybe they will teach her something! Glad To Help."
--Bria, 10

"My mom smokes and I am scared because I am afraid she will die. I don't want her to because I LOVE HER. She is soooo cool and she is my best friend. I don't want her to die."
--Kelsi, 9

"My mom is a smoker and I want to help her but it is hard to tell someone that they need to stop smoking because it is their life and if they want to do something like that then let them. What if it is someone that you really love and you don't want him or her to die because of it? You don't want to get into something that you can't get yourself out of, so can you help me make my mom stop smoking?"
--Bynea, 13

"What is the sense in smoking? It just kills you. What would you rather have, a cigarette or a life? I would rather have a life, so God keep you and your family from smoking, and you tell someone, 'stop smoking. What would you want, a life or a cigarette? I don't know about you but I want a life and I want you to have one too because God made you for a reason and that reason is for you to do what you do best. That is to help the earth and don't pollute it, so stop smoking and start to stop TODAY!'"
--Katie, 10

"I think that smoking is very bad for you. I lost a grandpa to it because he used to smoke when he was young and he had a heart problem. He had to have surgery and during that process he didn't make it. His last words to my father and mother were that he loved all of us and he was going to buy a new car and come and visit, but he never was able to."
--Elisa, 11

"Both of my parents smoke. My friends always comment about it and it embarrasses me. I hate it. I want them to quit but it gets them mad when the subject comes up. I'm worried about them and hold my breath and pray that they'll be okay every time they do it."
--Amy, 11

"I would tell them no and walk away. If they get mad, then I still would not take the drug that they offered. I know what is healthy for me and I will stay healthy. For their concern I would take the water hose and squirt the cigarette out of their mouth and well, that is all I have to share with you. I will see ya later and stay off drugs. Well, bye bye!"
--Morgan, 9

"I will never try smoking. Some people think its cool but trying to be cool in that way can kill you."
--Trevor, 10

"I actually know that one of my friend's friends is smoking and my friend has been joining her!!! I am very scared for both of them and someday I hope that they will stop, and soon, before it leads to worst."
--Katherine, 11

"I'd feel scared because it can give you cancer and it will pretty much kill you. I would shout out NO!!! (with an attitude) and leave, but if they kept asking I would say, 'only a fool would want to smoke and you're one of them!'"
--Lindsay, 12

"How I feel about smoking is that it is not that good. I would turn a friend down by saying, 'No thank you' or I would keep on saying no if they did not stop talking."
--Hope, 11

"Man, my mom and dad smoke and I hate it! Well, if someone offered me a cigarette I'd open my mouth in amazement and just say 'no' and walk away."
--Katie, 10

"I would be sad because I think people should not smoke. Smoking is not good."
--Nasserra, 9

"Both of my parents smoke. It's terrible my mother and father can die from this terrible stuff in your lungs. She doesn't want to quit and my father doesn't either. They don't understand what smoking can do to your body and health. Too bad they don't listen!"
> --Lyndsey, 10

"If I was offered a cigarette I would first think about my choices in life. It's either smoke and die or go on in life and be happy. I would say, 'I am not a low life like you but thanks newayz, and I'm sorry 4 u.' "
--Nichole

"I definitely would not except it. Smoking is a gross, disgusting habit. Besides, you could get cancer and die."
--H, 12

"If someone asked me to smoke, I would totally say 'no!' I think smoking is soooo gross."
--Courtney, 10

"I would say, 'no, I don't like it go away now! LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!'"
--DJ, 9

"I would say no even if it hurt their feelings. If they started bugging me I would run away and tell an adult."
--Tiffany, 8

"I would just say 'no,' because it's wrong to smoke. I have the same problem with my mom. She smokes a lot, and I hate it."
--Jordan, 10

"First of all, smoking doesn't look good. It makes you look like a weak person for even getting involved with it. People sell it for a profit and they don't realize it's murder. If someone offered me a cigarette, I'd politely say no. Being mean doesn't get you anywhere but if the person asks why, explain to them, don't ignore them."
--Niki

"I think smoking is stupid. I get mad when I see kids about my age smoking. I also don't like it when our health teachers are always telling us about the dangers of smoking. Sometimes it makes me want to smoke, but I know the dangers 'cause my grandfather died from lung cancer."
--Sakip, 11

"I would just ignore that person or say 'no.' Anyways, it's better not to even say anything because you shouldn't talk to strangers."
--Sara, 9

"If someone asked me if I wanted a smoke, I would just casually say, 'mmm, no thanks.' My opinion on smoking is eewwww! Gross! I wouldn't do it if my life depended on it. I would die anyway. Smoking is a lot grosser than anyone would think. Like when you see those commercials about smoking, and you see the lungs and the heart with the yellow teeth. I don't want to end up like those kids, that's sickening. I can't believe people want to smoke!"
--Sydney, 10

"I hate smoking. I think it's nasty and it kills you. If someone asked me to smoke I would say no because I think it is stupid. I think smoking should be against the law."
--Marissa, 8

"I would say, 'no it's gross! Hmmmm…let's see, lung cancer or no lung cancer? Hard question isn't it?' That is what I would say to someone I don't like. To someone I did like I would say, 'I don't want lung cancer.'"
--Alison, 10

"I just don't understand why people smoke. I mean, why would you want to? I think that smoking should be illegal, just like marijuana. I am in D. A. R. E., and I am learning about the dangers of smoking, and I hate it!!!"
--Julia, 10

"I would be really scared if someone or my friend asked me to smoke cigars, because I know if I did I would have made a bad decision. If it was one of my friends, I wouldn't want our friendship to be over just because of the cigars."
--Noelle, 9

"Well, I'm for sure not doing drugs. They are really bad for you. Go on, look what's in cigarettes and you'll see how bad they are. Well, one of my friends took a cigarette out of the ashtray and took a lighter and lit it and started SMOKING. She said, 'here try it. It's not that bad.' I said NO NO NO NO and she tried to shove it in my mouth. DON'T SMOKE TELL EVERYONE!!!!"
--Brittany, 11

"I would hate to try a cigarette because of the smell!!!!!!! What about you????"
--Torey, 12

"Smoking is horrid because it turns your teeth yellow, costs a lot, makes you smelly, and makes you DIE. If someone offered me a cigarette, I would walk away and the same thing with drugs. I was in Manhattan the other day, and realized how many people smoke."
--Olivia, 10

"I would definitely turn him down. I would say, 'Talk to the hand cause the face ain't smoking'. I am not doing it because my grandmother died of Emphysema. : ("
--Alicia, 10

"I feel bad for people that smoke. If someone asked me if I wanted a cigarette I would say never, because I don't want to die. I think that people that sell cigarettes should be arrested."
--Chasity, 9
