Let's Think About... Our Five Senses
Different parts of our bodies give us information:
Our eyes, our ears, our noses, our mouths, and our skin all work to give
us information.
We all have five senses.
Even little babies have five senses.
This is how our five senses work:
...Our eyes help us learn by seeing.
...Our ears help us learn by hearing.
...Our noses help us learn by smelling.
...Our mouths help us learn by tasting.
...Our skin helps us learn by touching.
Sometimes we use only one sense.
Sometimes we use more than one sense.
When you are looking at pictures, you are using one sense, the sense of sight.
When you are watching and listening as your teacher reads a story, you are
using two senses.
You are using both your sense of sight and your sense of hearing.
When your mom or dad holds you while reading a story, you are using
three senses:
You are using your sense of hearing to listen to the story.
You are using your sense of sight to look at the pictures.
You are using the sense of touch to feel the closeness of your mom or dad.
All of your senses are important. Your senses are working all the time.
