The sun and moon are partners. One gives us day. One helps us see at night. The sun and moon are very different from one another.

When it is sunny outside, you can see the sun shining like a big ball. But even when the sky is covered with dark clouds, the sun is still up in the sky. It is always there. It keeps us warm and let's us see. The sun warms the earth. The sun helps plants grow.

The moon lights up the sky on some nights. On other nights it looks only like a silver smile. Sometimes at night you can't see the moon at all, but it is always there. That is when It is called a "new moon".

Each night more of it shows until it is a big shiny light in the sky and that is called a"full moon". Once the moon is full it looks like it is going away again, hiding a little bit of itself each night. Even when you can't see it, it is still there. (Is the moon shy?)

The sun is huge. It is a flaming star that gives light during the day. The earth goes around the sun turning as it goes. It turns so fast that it does not feel as if it is turning at all.

The earth is very big, but it is still much smaller than the sun. The moon is much smaller than either the sun or the earth or even the stars. It is always there even when you can not see it.
