Let's Think About... Air
Air is real and it is all around us. It is inside our houses and outside in the gardens, in the forests and even over the oceans. The sky is filled with air.

Air takes up space. Even though you can't see it or hold it, air is real. We look right through clean air forgetting sometimes that it is there. All living things need air: people, plants and animals.

Air is so strong that it is sometimes used to lift things. When air is squished (compressed into a small space), it is very strong. Tires filled with compressed air hold up the weight of heavy trucks and cars. Some things can't work unless there is air, like windmills and sailboats.

When air becomes warm, it becomes lighter and it rises. Birds and gliders use warm moving air called currents to travel and move through the sky.

Moving air makes sounds like the wind blowing through branches of the trees. By blowing air into a flute music is made. It is air that makes oceans toss and turn.
