Let's Think About... Our Healthy Bodies
Bodies change and grow. Our bodies are precious and need our care. Each of us looks different from each other, even twins! But our bodies all have the same parts.

We all have skin and bones and muscles. We have eyes that let us see, ears that let us hear and brains that let us think.

Some parts of our bodies are different and unique. Your fingerprints are different from anyone else's in the whole world. No one who has a face exactly like yours. Even identical twins have some tiny thing that is different about them.

When you are sleeping, your body is working. Your brain, heart and lungs are helping you breathe and your body is still growing.

Our bodies cannot take care of themselves all alone. It is important to care for your body because you will have it your whole life. They need us to keep them safe, help them grow and keep them well. Healthy bodies need food, water, exercise, and rest every day.

1) Food and Water (Nutrition)

Milk is important because it makes strong bones and teeth. Eggs, cheese, meats, fish and beans are called protein. Protein helps your body repair itself and grow strong. Breads, rice, cereal, and pasta give your body energy. These foods are called carbohydrates. Vegetables and fruits keep you healthy. They give your body important vitamins and minerals. Water is needed to make all parts of our bodies work.

Be sure you drink 6 to 8 glasses of water every day

2) Exercise and Rest

Exercise makes your body strong and keeps you well. You need exercise every day. You exercise when you walk, run, ride your bike and play outside.

Rest is also important for a healthy body. When you take a nap or sleep at night, you are resting. While you are resting, your body is repairing and renewing itself, so that you can run and play another day.

Bodies are working all the time to keep us healthy. When we get sick, they work extra hard to make us well again.
