Homeschooling
Ellie, 13, of Omaha, Nebraska
Posted January 30, 2008
Lots of people think home schoolers are unintelligent or antisocial, but that is not the case. Home schoolers have social lives with plenty of friends. We do things with sports, YMCA, take classes, choir, and even go to church. We have our own prom, homecoming, and dances. We have home school sports teams too that only home schoolers play on. We get together in groups and hang out with kids of all ages, eleven year olds and seventeen year olds together.
There are advantages to being homeschooled. We can learn things at a rate that's good for us. We don't have to rush through something hard. We can take our time on what's difficult. Being in a higher grade doesn't really matter much because we often do stuff with people who are older or younger than us which gives us a wider range of social skills. Instead of being cooped up inside a building most of the day, we can do school outside if we want. Most places have special deals and discounts for homeschoolers.
We also don't have to worry about fitting in as much. The clothes you wear to school don't define you and you aren't teased for it. Without so much social pressure of being around your buds eight hours a day, we can focus on schoolwork. The only bad part is we don't get snow days.
Kellam Baseball Coach Remains Hospitalized After Crash
Amy, 16, of Virginia

Kellam baseball coach St. Clair Jones remained hospitalized today, a day after being involved in an automobile accident. Jones' car apparently hit a tree during icy road conditions Tuesday morning, and he was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, said Kathleen O'Hara, assistant superintendent for media and communications for Virginia Beach Public Schools.
Jim Moxey, Kellam's athletic director, said Jones suffered fractured vertebrae in his lower back and had some spinal cord damage. Jones underwent surgery late Tuesday night "to get everything lined back up," Moxey said, adding that more will be known about Jones' spinal cord damage once the swelling goes down.
Moxey visited Jones early today and said dozens of others were lined up, too.
"He's the same old Coach St. Clair Jones, cracking jokes," Moxey said. "He's in very high spirits." Jones, a special education teacher, has coached the Knights for the past seven seasons.
"As far as I'm concerned, St. Clair Jones is our baseball coach until he tells me otherwise," Moxey said. "With what he's capable of doing, he's going to have some limitations, but he will be involved with the program as much as he possibly can be."
Lost Clothes, Purse and Diabetes Meter
Jessica, 11, of Southern Pines

A girl at school had her clothes, purse and diabetes meter stolen during gym. She did not lock her gym locker, so someone during gym may have taken them. She had to wear her gym clothes for the rest of the day. Some say they do not know why they were stolen. Her classmates say they were not in the locker room when it happened. Still others say they were in the other locker room.
Her gym teacher said "I do not recall anyone in the locker room during class. Maybe they stole them after class when she wasn't there." Her friends say they hope they turn up. She lost her iPod, cell phone, money, key to the house, and other items. Everyone is saying "I hope they turn up!"
Gold Rush Leads to Immigration
Alec, 13, of Indiana

In the 1800's, millions of immigrants came to California from all over the North and South America looking for the gold that was spotted by the locals in San Francisco. These immigrants got there by going through Mexico and up through Texas and in to San Francisco.
Around the 1800's gold was struck in and around San Francisco. Of course people would hear about this magnificent discovery. So within weeks there were more than 100 people mining and sifting for gold. The gold was plentiful so people were there for quite a little while.
By the 1850's the population in California swelled to more than 100,000 people and continued to swell close to 2,500,000. If it wasn't for the California Gold Rush and the 100's of 1,000's following close behind, our population and future would be not as diverse of a community as it is today.
Some mines are still open to this day, but are in state parks. One very interesting fact is that Stone Well mine provided more than $2,000,000 between 1870 and 1892.
Website Scheme?

Buying things for a website: should we do it? Now you can find plenty of websites with things that you have to buy. Should we do it or is it a waste of money?
At Club Penguin.com, Neopets.com and Webkinz you have to waste real money to get most of the fun stuff, but some can be free. On Club Penguin, you have to use real money to buy clothes, upgrade your house and buy some of the animals. On Neopets.com, to buy some of the clothes and toys, you have to use real money. But will they copy your ID? On Webkinz, you have to buy a toy to get in,
but it will only work for a little while. Should you do it? On most of the websites they do not say how long they work for, but they do say the prices can be $5 or even $54. Is this safe or will they copy your ID?
Decades of Miami Heat
Corey, 7, West Palm Beach, Florida

It's been 20 years of the Miami Heat. Now, will they end in a slump?
2006 was the team's lucky season! It led all to the NBA Finals! It was
the Miami Heat vs. the Dallas Mavericks. Yep, Dallas was home. But that
didn't stop the Heat! They won! 2006-2007 champions! Antoine Walker
said "We will do it again!" He and some others got traded the next
season. Shaq is BIG and funny. He said, "Only sport I know is college
football" on TNT. The big guy was drafted by the Orlando Magic. If you want to watch the Heat they are on Sun Sports or FSN
