What is Peace?
Natalya, Shergil, and Kimberly, 12 of Troy
Posted February 27, 2008
The principal of RPES came to Mrs. Cruz' room and talked about the Peace Days.
A peace day is a day with no physical fighting. Boys and girls earn Peace Days by following the school rules. Every 5 days without any physical fighting, the boys and girls earn a Peace Day and a reward like Hat Day, Pajama Day, and Sport
Team Day. On Pajama Day, every student gets to wear their pajamas.
The teacher and the students work together to organize the Peace Day's activities. Sometimes the teachers and the principal have meetings to talk about the Peace Day activities. The boys and girls favorite Peace Day reward is extra outdoor recess. That means they have 30 minutes outside of the school. In winter, they stay outside and they go sledding. In spring, they get to play games like kick ball. When they earn 60 Peace Days, they get a mini Peace Fest.
The Best Beagle
Sarah, 10, Plainfield

Just a little bit ago a beagle won best show dog. This dogs name was Uno. In the competition, there were many who could have won but they couldn't match Uno paw for paw.
Uno's owner could not be happier. I mean, imagine having a
award-winning dog at your home and having reporters like me following you
everywhere. Boy would that be the life.
This dog was awarded best beagle in the whole world. WOW. I mean that
would be amazing, even knowing these people would be a treat. At the end
all he could say was "ruff ruff."
As you may know, this dog appeared everywhere!! Even on the
Internet, that is where I read it. As you all know, it would be extremely
hard to teach that dog all the things he needed to know such as sit,
stay, come, lay down. That dog must have been smart from the day he was
born.
Uno is a amazing dog as I see it, and the owner is talented
too for having the patience he had in the dog while training him. It
all comes down to will Uno keep his place next year or will another dog
beat him to it?
Six Sixth-Graders Make a Magazine
Teresa, 11, Chapel Hill, North Carolina
Posted February 27, 2008
A group of sixth-graders from Smith Middle school decided to
make their own magazine. Natasha was the one who came up with the idea.
Her friends: Katherine, Anna, Tyne, Alisha, and Izumi were ready to
help her. Their magazine title is View of the World. Their main topic is
to tell other kids there is more to the world than they think and it may
disappear soon if the necessary precautions aren't taken.
Everyone has a job. Katherine is their artist, she draws the
cover and their mascot Eartha. Anna writes one of their articles called
Encyclopedia where she writes about a topic chosen randomly. Tyne writes
an article called Weird Wacky Animals. She chooses five animals to write
about for every issue. Alisha and Izumi are new to this. They help the
others with finding the information and people to submit articles. They
also give ideas. Natasha writes the articles: This month in History,
Poetry, and Travels. This month in History is when they write about the
history of that month. They rotate the jobs for every issue.
The message the want to give with this is simple. "There is only one world in which we can live so we need to take good care of it," says Natasha.
Their mascot Eartha is an earth that they dress up for every issue. In
the January issue, she was wearing a Santa hat and boots. Their school
librarian saw this magazine and let them put an issue in the library.
"It took a while to convince our teachers to let us go tho the library
to work on our magazine during our lunch/recess period. But after seeing
the magazine and the work we had done they became more flexible with
letting us go," said Anna. "I am really proud of what we accomplished,"said Tyne. "Our Language Arts teacher is even giving us extra credit for this," says Katherine.
These sixth-graders have put up quite a show. Natasha tells us
that this has been her dream since third grade and that if you have a
dream you should chase just like she did. This shows that age and size really doesn't matter.
Golden Dustpan Scam
Sarah, 10, of Ray
Posted February 27, 2008
Students at Wellston Intermediate School are cleaning their rooms for a golden dustpan. Although this contest is making the janitors hard job easier, some students are feeling their hard work is being ignored.
Many students are crawling on the floor just to get the dustpan. At the end of the nine weeks, the classes with the most times having the dustpan, get an extra gym. Though gym is fun for most students, many classes worked so hard for the dustpan and their work was unrewarded.
Mrs. Riegel's class went on cleaning strike because their room
was spotless one night and they didn't get the dustpan. Some students
admit their room had dirt in a lot of places and they still won.
I believe if this competition cannot be made more fair it
should come to an end.
Betts Family Discovers Grave Behind House!
Maya, 6, Virginia
Posted February 27, 2008
Maya Betts recently discovered that Mr. Keene who owned Old Keene Mill in the late 1800's is buried behind her house. Mr. Keene owned a large mill in Springfield, Virginia. His grave is located in Greentree Village right behind the Betts town-home.
The grave-site is very old and may hold more than one body other than Mr. Keene. Greentree Village has done a fine job of caring for the resting place of Mr. Keene.
How Cats Act Alone
Brianna, 6, Louisiana
Posted February 27, 2008
When cats are alone I notice that they act a little funny. I mean, who leaves a cat and they come back and tear up your furniture. I went in to interview some friends and this is what I got. Ebony said, "I believe that every cat is lazy for example, my cat wouldn't even come sit in my lap yesterday". I also talked to some neighbors and they all said, "The only thing that I want to happen is for my cat to be active and do anything I want them to do." So I believe that if a dog can do a lot of work, then a cat can too.
I'm Brianna with the latest news.
School Has Got Cool!!!!
Laura, 10, of Pasco
Posted February 27, 2008
School is forgiven for what they have done. Emma says that school has put more fun things in classrooms! But some people still don't like school. But what can we do? We need more kids to like school. Laura says that without more kids, schools can start getting replaced with other things.
But 365 is not giving up. 365 is for schools. They help give things to schools. Without kids they can't give things away to schools. 365 is not the only 365 group. There are 10 but why aren't they doing anything, I don't know.
But all you kids out there, try to get your friends to like school too. Because we love school.
