Does Your School Use the Peace Builder Program?
Kenzi, 12 of Kentucky
Posted May 14, 2008

Does your school use the Peace Builder program? Does your school have bullies?
Mine does. Well, if you don't know, the Peace Builder program is a program where
kids are encouraged not to bully. In the pledge, it says for you to:
To Praise People
Give Up Put-Downs
Seek Wise People
Notice and Speak Up About Hurts You Have Caused
Right Wrongs
Help Others

Well, my school is a Catholic school, grade pre-k through eight. Our school used
to have A LOT of bullies. People were crying everyday and no one would stand up
for them. Finally, people started noticing the hurts they were causing by
bullying. But still, no one stopped, even after teachers ENDLESSY told them to.
Teachers were upset, kids were mad, and parents were furious.

Finally, our principal, Mrs. Lueke, put the Peace Builder program into action
when I was in fifth grade. All of us thought it was VERY stupid, and kept on
doing the things we were doing. In fifth grade, you think you are "too cool" to
be nice. Our amazing teacher, Mrs. Beck, noticed what was happening. She
addressed us one day during class. "Kids, I don't know if you know it, but you
are causing a lot of hurt in your class, school, and community." She said. From
that day on, one day a month, we had a Peace Circle. We would sit in a circle and go around saying the things people had done to hurt us, or friends, and other people would give us feedback on how to change the problem.

From that day on, our rowdy, bullying class changed. We were nicer, apologized
for bullying, and even the bullies of the class confessed. Our class was changed
forever. We still argue, because we are kids and no one is perfect. So, if your
school is anything like my class was, encourage your principal or teachers to
start the Peace Builder program. Though it might seem stupid at first, believe
me, it could change you forever, but only if you let it.

Small Town Memorial Day Celebration Makes National News!

PT-PAGE is sponsoring a Memorial Day Celebration for May 27. Elected officials
like Bob Regola, and congressmen like Tim Murphy have accepted their invitation to participate in the celebration. An essay contest was held district-wide and 3
entries will be chosen to read their essay. It will be a night of prizes, fun,
and inspiration.

PT-PAGE President Rhonda Miller started with the essay idea of 'What Freedom Means to Me'. A winner from each grade will be chosen, and the best 3 entries (elementary, middle, and high school) will read their piece. Colonel Regis Cardiff will speak at this event, and Tim Murphy will present a flag to the district. The community band will play patriotic selections that they have been working on.

Held in the high school gym, even the military color guard is involved.
All-State Choir member August will lift his voice for this event. Dr.
Jay Tray, an active school board member will be our Master of Ceremonies. Guy
LeVielle will give the Invocation and Benediction. Local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops will demonstrate flag folding.

As a conclusion, Charles Ford will play taps and the community band will
perform. Refreshments will be available!

Local Girl Gets Her Hair Cut For Locks Of Love!

ERB's (standardized tests) are supposed to help schools. However, no one can
ignore the effect that they have on the students. "I could hardly remember my
best friend's birthday," says Riverdale student Nina H.

Others might not be as stressed, but without a doubt, they are still quite
nervous. I just recently finished my ERB's, and I am already anticipating next
year's and the year after's ERB's.

A few people might not have been as stressed, but the majority of people are and
were quite nervous and stressed. I would estimate that about 5% of people taking
the ERBs were not stressed, 10% of them were overly stressed, and 85% of them
were stressed, but not too stressed. So, all we have to do is ask ourselves: How
nervous am I?

The kids who share her hair are grateful to have her hair. She said to me "just think someone else is going to be wearing my hair and I am glad to share my hair!" Miss Trenda is our favorite hairdresser. She is nice and sweet and funny. Miss Trenda donates her time to cut Hannah's hair for free! Miss Trenda sends her hair to Locks of Love.

Summer School ... A Full Class
Savannah, 12, of Canada

How'd you like to go to school in the summer? Some students are!!!
These students are attending school in the summer while some students
aren't. A specific schedule is followed. The school board for these
specific schools believe that students are forgetting a lot of their work
done in the previous year so the school board thinks that this is
needed so the first to second terms are not wasted doing review from
the previous year. The students do have a longer Spring Break and
Christmas holidays though to save up from the missing of summer
holidays.
I think this is an ok idea but the students should
have their say. I wouldn't want to be locked up in a classroom for
the summer when I could be swimming, walking, riding bikes and having fun
with my friends. What do you think about the idea of staying in
school for the summer? Would you rather stay in a regular balanced
school or stay in school for the summer?

Spaceship Sighting

Some people have claimed to see a spaceship. They all described the details
exactly the same. How odd? Many others who don't believe this are protesting. "I
think they just got together and made the whole thing up," a librarian from the
public library says.

The 'Spaceship Sighters', as they call themselves, say that the spaceship was
solid silver and the lights were green and yellow. "The spaceship at first
looked like a big green and yellow star. Then it turned, morphed into a
spaceship," a man walking down the street said. They claimed that the spaceship
kidnapped them, then placed them back home. "Nonsense," a person said, still
running. Some now think that they should believe, too, but some still do not. What do you think?

Do you watch baseball? Well more importantly, do you watch Red Sox baseball?
Well if you have then you must have noticed that they won the WORLD SERIES who
and they are on the verge of winning one this year.

By the way, have you noticed that the have been whooping a ton of other teams
this year? They are doing very good and if they keep it up then they might have
a shot in the Series this year. Big Popeye (also known as David Ortiz) has been
jacking the ball out of the park this year. He is an awesome power hitter. Manny
Ramirez has been hitting good this year too.

Hey my name is Destiny and here is my story of the worst day
ever. One saturday morning It was 7:30.

a little early so we can get a good 30 minutes of practice time in before
game time. Hey did you ever have a big game and your coach want you to
come an hour earlier than what you planed to come.

So I get to the high school to play the biggest game of the
year. So as the other team walks in so we go to the locker
room and get our uniforms on. We go out and start to play and as I
get the ball, my shorts fall right off and every one is now laughing
and that my story of the worst day ever. Bye and tune in next
time.
