Gas Prices Skyrocketing!
Adam, 8, of Pennsylvania
Posted June 11, 2008
Gas prices keeps going and going and going up. Hello, Mr. President, what are you blind, and not paying attention to the screaming people? Our parents won't be able to buy it and will have to take buses or ride their bikes to work. Either that or they might have to quit their jobs. And if they do, we might not be able to buy food, or buy birthday presents, or keep our home.
They need to lower gas prices, because if they don't, we could die from hunger.
Great Friends to The Extreme

Where I live has some bad people and some good people. A few weeks ago, a few of my friends held a carwash/bake sale in a neighborhood to raise money for a young girl getting surgery at a hospital.
Brooke, saw that a girl from Vietnam named Lai Thi Dao on the television, who had a face tumor making it difficult to breathe. Brooke said, "I was devastated when I saw her. I felt like i needed to help her." Together, her friends, her mom, and herself, raised $660 but selling baked goods and washing cars.
It shows that a little help goes a long way.
Rudy Garcia-Tolson
Amelia, 10, of Fort Wayne, IN
Posted June 11, 2008
Rudy Garcia-Tolson is a tri-athlete. He has no legs. He competed in the 2002 Paralympics.
Rudy was born with multiple birth defects. A combination of crippling Pterygium Syndrome (1), a clubfoot, webbed fingers on both hands, and a cleft lip and palate. He had to have his legs' amputated. At first he was sad. Then the doctor suggested to Rudy's parents that he could get prosthetics for legs. This meant that Rudy would have some abilities to do what a normal person could do.
Rudy started swimming, racing and biking. When one of his father's friends seen what Rudy could do, he asked if he wanted to team up with him. Rudy said "yes!" When that day came, Rudy was excited. The plan was for his teammate to run and bike and Rudy would do the swimming. Rudy was best at swimmer. He practiced 10 hours each week and each time beating his personal best. After the trial Rudy and his teammate had won. Rudy always say's, "time is wasting get out and do something special!!!!!"
Why You Should Follow Your Dreams!!
Alexa, 9, of California
Posted June 11, 2008
So you know Jonas Brothers? Well, the Jonas brother's followed their dreams and so can you. When you follow your dreams, you can either become a famous person or not. Like now I am doing dancing and singing, and I am doing well at it. But you should have a special talent and I know you do. It doesn't have to be just dancing and singing, it could be writing or counting, or being really, really nice.
Just practice everyday and you'll get good at it. So it doesn't matter if you maybe don't know how to sing or dance but I know that there is something out there for you. It doesn't matter if you are big or small or if you're fat or skinny, or if you're ugly or pretty. I know you are just right.
So I know I said this a lot BUT JUST FOLLOW YOU DREAMS.
House Keeping
Liam, 11, of Perth

I don't know about you but housekeeping is a hard job to do.
Dusting, washing dishes, doing laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping is no joke. I totally respect the people who clean the house for us and it is not the best thing to do in the whole entire world. Especially with summer just around the corner.
Heaps of people are getting sick and tired of cleaning the house because it takes too long to do. I guess that means I really need to keep my stuff in order.
MLB Rivalries Gather Steam
Derek, 11, of Brick, NJ
Posted June 11, 2008
The historic rivalry between the Yankees and Red Sox, Mets and Braves, and so on, has created many differences between the fans of rival teams. But these differences will not be settled soon, as a new rivalry arises.
The gap between the Devil Rays and the Yankees has always been big, but now it is boiling over to a level that the Yankees fans treat Devil Rays fans like Red Sox fans, and vice versa. As the season continues, so does the rivalry. This rivalry can be traced back to 1998. When the Devil Rays were founded.
The Yankees and D-Rays (as fans like to call them) were always scheduled to play regularly and things were already starting to boil over. It wasn't until 2007 when this rivalry exploded, when the Yankees defeated the D-Rays at Yankee Stadium 21-4. In 2008, the Yankees were the worst team in the division, below the crucial .500 average. The Rays (renamed during the 2007-2008 off-season) were neck-and-neck with the Red Sox who were closely lagging behind. This was the first time the Rays were above 5th place in May.
Settling differences between people who torment each other is already a big job. To calm down a whole team and millions of others who torment each other is nearly impossible. So, for the time being, the rivalries continue.
Hip Dysplasia
Kezia, 12 of Terrace, B.C.
Posted June 11, 2008
In October 2007, a new sort of disease occurred in Terrace, B.C. when my niece, Shyla Rae was born. Her hip was out of her socket and was moving in and out of the socket. It's called Hip Dysplasia. The doctor found the disease when she was only 15 months.
The doctor in Vancouver Children's Hospital, whom was examining her, said that Shyla is just old enough to put into a rhino-brace instead of surgery. A rhino brace is a brace that would spread her legs completely apart into a half split. Shyla's Mom, Krista, did research on Google.ca. Krista found that it runs in the family and is very common in girls. It's hardly ever found in the boys' genes.
When Shyla got the brace, and she would have to wear it for 6 months. Shyla has to wear it everyday without a break. Changing her diaper, or giving her a bath was the only break she could get.
They went back to the Children's Hospital about 4 weeks later to see if the rhino brace was working. It was working perfectly. The doctor told Krista, that Shyla could have a break 3 hours a day. Krista and her husband, Ryan, were thrilled with joy.
On June 3rd, 2008, Krista, with the help of her parents, took Shyla and her new-born baby to the Children's Hospital in Vancouver again. Krista needed to find out if her new-born baby girl had Hip Dysplasia too. He didn't see anything wrong with the new-born baby girl. He then examined Shyla, and said Shyla only needed to wear the brace while sleeping at night. Shyla has to wear it for 5 more months. Today, Shyla is healthy and is very happy baby, even though she wears the brace at night. I'm Kezia of Terrace, B.C. signing out.
The Scoop On Drugs
Camillia, 11, of St. Louis, MO
Posted June 11, 2008
Lots of kids my age are starting to do drugs. It is mostly because the parents don't mind or they aren't involved. Smoking is very dangerous and addictive. Let me tell you more.
Smoking is icky and cause breathing problems. Smokers have more colds and upper respiratory problems. Cigarettes have nicotine, which is very addictive. Tobacco also affects your body's growth. 9-16 year olds bodies are still growing, you know.
It is illegal to sell alcohol to people under 18. Too much alcohol can slow you down and make things harder than they seem. It can also damage every organ in your body.
There are many ways to refuse drugs and alcohol. You can avoid the people who do them, and stay away from them or just say "NO" firmly. Everyone should try to be drug free and live a long healthy life.
Summer's Just Around the Corner!
Caroline, 13, of MA
Posted June 11, 2008
Summer, you can imagine it, can't you? The cool ocean breezes of the beach, the late nights sitting in the grass and catching fire flies. Makes you want to jump right on over to the 21st, doesn't it? I can certainly say most kids I know love the summer!
One big reason that kids may be so excited is at this time of year there's "no school," says Becky Boxfurd, a resident of a local town in Massachusetts. "This is a wonderful time for the family to pack the picnic basket and head down to the beach, or take the dog for a really (really!) long walk and get some good exercise!"
Another lovely reason children are excited? This is the time when children get a chance to go to camp. If you can, always, always, ALWAYS go to camp during the summer, whether it's with Mom and Dad in a tent, Aunt Suzie in her RV, or with friends at an established camp. Some good established camps include the YMCA Camp of Wintrop, Maine, or the First Church Camp of Windsor Hills, New Hampshire. Those camps will definitely bring good experience!
So, in conclusion, now it's clear why kids are all hyped up for the upcoming season. Besides who wouldn't be when there's no homework, no chores (well, to an extent...!), and TONS of free time to chill with your friends during the summer. So what are you waiting for? Get out there and enjoy the free time!
Teacher, Meet Your Student!
Elizabeth, 10, of PA
Posted June 11, 2008
We are going to meet our new teachers in August. My friends and I have our fingers crossed hoping that a group of us will be together. The friends are: Madi, Azure, Missy, Vicky, Kaitlyn, Zak, Casey, Justin and me.
"I'll miss you guys," says Miss Gospodarek (or Miss G. as we call her). She's really cool. We are hoping to see her at the meeting in August. The meeting will be in the cafeteria.
I hope we get Mrs. Bomburger. I hear she's very nice (and strict!). She used to be a third grade teacher but they're giving her a 5th grade class.
This is Elizabeth signing off.
Spilled Syrup
Lizzy, 12, of Vancouver, WA
Posted June 11, 2008
I was babysitting my brothers and sisters, setting up a game for them, when all the sudden my brother Danny grabbed the syrup.
Lets look at my sister Joy's side of the story. "I was babysitting with my sister and I came into the playroom to get something, and I found syrup all over the floor with my brother staring at me. We had to use hot soapy water to clean it up it was a big mess."
Now let take a peek at Elisabeth's side of the story. "I was babysitting my oldest brother who is four when my sister screamed, 'Liz come here'. I ran to the playroom and stepped on the syrup. I then yelled, 'Danny!!!!!' I called my mom and dad, and when they got home, we had a big mess to clean up."
How do you think it happened that Danny got syrup on the floor. His defense was that he wanted something to slide on and to play with, so he got the syrup. He had trouble opening it. When he finally opened it, it spilled everywhere.
Break Up or Make Up?
Sarah, 8, of Tennessee
Posted June 11, 2008
Hi, today the news is about boys and girls breaking up or making up. Boys all around are getting and losing their girls. Boys are not putting themselves into these relationships. I've had one myself and trust me it hurts. How is it at this age I'm feeling this? I know I'm young but it still doesn't feel good. Why are boys such jerks and thinking only about their Gameboy and "boy" friends. What am I, chop liver?
Thank you kind world, this is Sarah.
Miley Cyrus
Unknown
Posted June 11, 2008
People are constantly attacking Miley Cyrus and it really needs to stop! There are tons of pressure on her already but no matter how good she is, people keep looking for her to mess up! Every time something little happens, the tabloids get all over her! They are always saying that she is going to mess up her life, and be a bad example to kids just because some other former Disney stars did!
So she used a body double during her concert. Big deal! It was for about two seconds, and it was just so that she could change costumes. People keep saying that the Jonas Brothers could have just done another song but the whole point of doing it that way was so that the transition between Hannah and Miley would be really fast. And it's not even like they where trying to hide that they did it that way because in the 3D movie they showed the choreographer coming up with the idea!
Some less than modest pictures where on the Internet, but no one has any proof that they where actually her! In fact in the news they referred to the person in the picture as a "Miley look alike." So it probably wasn't her but even if it was, who are we to judge her? This is going to sound cheesy because it is one of her songs but it is true, NOBODY'S PERFECT!
It really bugs me when people say that she has no talent, and that she only got the role of Hannah Montana because of who her dad is. First of all I doubt that Disney cares who her dad is because they are mostly interested in getting the most money they can. Hiring Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter wouldn't get them more money because most kids wouldn't have known who he is. So basically they would have nothing to gain so they wouldn't do it. They picked Miley because she had a really mature, strong voice for her age, she could act, and she had a bubbly personality and came across as "a person who loved every minute of life."
She must have done really well in her auditions because she was younger than everyone else there and they had plenty of other people to choose from! Anyways, it just bugs me when people talk negative about someone who they don't even know. Especially when they don't have all of the facts.
