Origins of the Girl Scouts

Juliette Gordon Low was born in Savannah, Georgia. On March 12,1912 she assembled 18 girls for a local "Girl Scout" meeting. She believed that girls should have the opportunity to develop mentally, physically, and spiritually. Her goal was to bring girls out of isolated "home" environments and into the community with servicing them. Girl Scouts also played basketball, hiked, went camping, and learn first aid.

Girl Scouts became very popular. There about 50 million women in the U.S. today who are Girl Scout alumnae. I think Daisy (Ms. Low's nickname) would be proud of her accomplishment.

The Changing Economy

The gas price is outrageous. People who have kids like to get out and travel whether by plane or car, can't.

In the next few years the prices will go up to $7.00 a gallon and people can't afford this let alone what the prices are now. Food is no better with prices going up every day. Some families have a lot of kids so they need a lot of food. People are cutting back on everything and it doesn't seem to be getting better.

Are we going to starve, Mr. President? When are you going to make some decisions to help the economy.

Poor Kids' Lives Have Been Saved by Plumpy'nut in Africa!
Mariella, 7, of Raleigh
Posted June 25, 2008

On the news, in Africa, there were thousands of kids who had scrapes and band-aids on their faces. Kids don't have enough food to eat and the milk they need. The African people had bought Plumpy'nut for their babies. Plumpy'nut is fortified peanut butter stuffed with milk, and vitamins have assisted the Niger's crisis where 3.6 million people face severe food shortages.

A lot of children are born malnourished in Africa. The have tubes through their noses so they could breathe, because if you do not have food, it makes it harder for them to breathe and survive. Some babies don't get the milk they need because their mothers don't have either enough breast milk or none at all.

This is sad. There should be enough food around the world to feed everyone. We sure dump a lot of waste every day when it can be given away to people who need it.

Splish Splash! I can just feel the waves splash on me as I go whitewater rafting! With about 50 students from 'THE MET' (Our church youth group) going, 22 hours away for 9 days in July, this will be a trip to remember!

We are doing numerous activities such as rock climbing, rappelling, whitewater rafting, Lake Jackson activities and going to the Thermopolis Hot Springs which are the largest in the world. We will have bible sessions about different topics and will be ask tough questions. Plus, we'll have the whole ranch to ourselves!

Even though its a long packing list and will take almost a day to get there, it's totally worth it. It cost a lot of money, and your probably thinking how did I get there. Well, we had 2 fundraisers, which helped out a lot.

Your also probably thinking what about adults? Are there going to be adults there to make sure we're safe? Yes there is going to be our awesome youth staff and cooks to cook are meals. Thanks for reading this and this is Hannah signing out!!!

This week is the week the "Tennis Channel" celebrates the Great Tournament called Wimbledon. Surprising enough Federer who has now discovered he has the disease called "Mononucleosis" was undiagnosed and caught up to him this spring.

This deadly disease cannot only kill him but take way his tennis career. He has been ranked # 1 in professional tennis for many years. The #2, Nadal has now stole the number one spot from Federer. Many people as myself blame this disease for taking his career little by little. But as the tournament is in play this week Federer has not lost yet.

It just shows that with enough determination, you can achieve your goals no matter what obstacles you face.

Tooth Fairy, True or Not?
Shelbie, 8, of Columbus

I lost a tooth the other day. My brother tried to pull it out first and then I tried. It wasn't working. Then he tried again and it finally came out. We were both in the bathroom when it fell down in the vent.

I was scared and asked my mommy if the tooth fairy would come even though the tooth was lost down in a vent. But the tooth fairy didn't come when there was another tooth I had lost. So I'm thinking well maybe this whole tooth fairy thing isn't true. Again I asked my mom about it. She just said well maybe she was too tired.

So I asked my step mom and she told me the tooth fairy isn't real. She has a daughter and she kept all of her teeth. You should have seen. It was a lot. Anyway, I still got money for it. I got $16.00 under my pillow, which was really sweet.

How I Felt About The First Day Of School?
Ana, 9, of Syracuse

On the first day of school kids feel nervous and scarred, and some feel really happy to meet their new teacher and to meet new friends.

On my first day of school I felt really nervous and so did all my friends. Luckily, I knew my teacher and all my friends from last year. My fourth grade teacher was my aunt's teacher when she was in fourth grade, so that's how I knew her.

You should think or ask your parents of a way to help make you feel better so you can go to school not feeling nervous.
