Halloween from Different Viewpoints

We might think that there is only one Halloween and that is the one that we celebrate. But there are many other views of Halloween that some people don't know. And we are sharing them with you.
In the USA, on Halloween we dress up and pretend to be someone for one whole night. Kids dress up for trick or treat and receive candy with that famous line: "Trick or Treat!". In the USA, we crowd the streets and show off our costumes. And of course we carve pumpkins, light them, and watch their faces glow. Over 80% of American kids carve pumpkins and light them. That's a lot of kids if you think about all the kids in the USA!
Ok, put away the candy and the masks. In Mexico, you will see all the people there dressed in skeletons and shrines all over. Mexicans celebrate Halloween by honoring the dead. If you live in Mexico you would be taught that you must not be afraid of death. Around the shrines you can see many flowers, and things that belonged to the ancestor so he or she could be guided back home. They call Halloween the days of the dead.
How did Halloween start? It all started with a group called the Celts. They thought that spirits needed to be worshiped so they gave special rituals. But then the kids started to play pranks. They would remove the front gate from the fences of neighbors. The neighbors soon found out and they confronted them and bribing them with sweets so they wouldn't play tricks. This became a once a year thing. The kids always wore masks when they came to play tricks. They would shout, "Trick or Treat!" If the neighbors didn't give them treats, the kids would play tricks. And that the story of Halloween...BOO!
