What Thanksgiving Is

Many of us think that Thanksgiving is all about the turkey and the food. But, it's not, you see. On Thanksgiving, the Pilgrims were thankful that they had reached Plymouth Rock safely on the Mayflower. A Native American (Indian) named Squanto helped them hunt turkey and pick berries and nuts.

A good way to remember that Thanksgiving is about giving thanks and not about food is to take a jar and put it on your countertop or table, basically wherever you are going to eat your Thanksgiving dinner. Also, put a sticky notes pad and a pen by it. Ask friends and family members to write things down on a sticky note that they are thankful for, roll the notes up, and then stick them in the jar.

Ask the person to also write their name on the bottom of the note. At Thanksgiving dinner, announce the person's name, and the thing they are thankful for. If they are there, ask them to read their note. If you are going to Thanksgiving Dinner somewhere like a friend's or a relatives, be sure to bring the jar with you.

While you're there, ask the friend or relative to write something down on the pad if they haven't yet. Even if they have, you should set a goal for how many things for your group to be thankful for. And if your goal is 100 let's say, and you only have ninety, then you should ask the friend or relative to write one or more so you can fulfill your goal. Have fun being thankful, and remember, it's not all about the turkey!!!!
