Should a kid get to know family members in other cities?

There are many reasons to know family members who live in other cities. Here are two good ones:

1. If you travel, you might have a place to stay. Or even if you don't stay with them, you can visit or call them to see what's happening, how to get around, have company, etc.

2. So you will not inadvertently have a romantic relationship with a cousin that you didn't even know was a cousin. (Believe it or not, many reunions are planned for this reason.)
