It's water versus air in this perplexing phenom.

next

Stuff You'll Need

  • water
  • cup
  • paper

How to do it

  1. Put some water in a cup.
  2. Take a piece of paper and put it on top of the cup.
  3. Hold your hand over the top of the cup and flip it over.
  4. Take your hand away and the paper stays!
  5. Isn't that cool?
  6. The paper stays in place because the air outside the cup pushes up on the paper and that air is stronger than the water inside of the cup that is pushing down on the paper.
