The Hippies
Hippies in the 60s offered a new life style, new music, and a
whole new way of living and loving. Many believe that the hippie
movement was launched in San Francisco in 1967, during the now
famous "Summer of Love." Pinning an actual date on this
movement is hard to do -- free-spirited rebels roamed with flowers
in their long hair, America saw peace symbols, bare feet, incense,
tie-dyed clothes, drugs, and rock-n-roll. However, 1968 was a pivotal
year -- hippies and their more-political counter parts, the yippies,
protested outside the Chicago Democratic National Convention and
tie-dye reached its peak of popularity.
