I have fun on my bike—that is the main thing that keeps me riding. I also enjoy going over obstacles and the challenge of climbing a difficult hill. Going fast down hills is also exciting.
I started riding a bike when I was really young—and I was always on my bike. My dad started racing and I would go to the races and just ride around for fun or help out. When I was seven I started to join in the races even though there were no kids’ categories. I would have to race against the 18-year-olds—but I was never last!
I have more fun when I am doing well, and that motivates me to work harder. Biking is still fun for me—I don't take it too seriously or worry about how much training I do.
I would like to move up to the expert category next year so that I can ride the more challenging, longer courses. My long-range goal is to compete in the Canada Cup series when I am 16 and 17 and qualify to compete in the World Championships.
The main advice I would give is to have fun on your bike and enjoy yourself. Spend lots of time on your bike trying new things. Don't be afraid of falling off—and if you do, just keep trying. Don't worry about being the fastest. Mountain biking is something that you can do for your whole life as long as you keep it fun.
