Triathlon is a race against the clock and your fellow competitors. It consists of three sports: swimming, biking and running. I did my first triathlon at the age of 10 at the prompting of my Grade 5 teacher Mr. Bill Vermeersch, who was participating in triathlons himself at the time. My first race proved to be successful as I won my age group and it was from that day on that I was hooked.
My love of the sport, competitiveness and goals I have set keep me motivated to push myself further in the sport. The goals I would like to achieve are: to place in the top 5 at Junior Nationals, which would qualify me for the Junior Worlds; win the Junior Nationals; receive sponsorship to help me reach my goals; go to the Worlds as an elite or under-23 competitor; and eventually qualify for the Olympics.
Triathlon is a sport you can start at any age, as there are many different age categories and distances. So if you've considered getting involved, "Give it a Tri" you won't regret it.
