“Global Groovin’” invites your child to take his/her own musical interests one step further by providing opportunities to mix tunes by using a mixing board with sounds and rhythms from different cultures. History, current use of and general facts about instrument sounds will be introduced. Then your child will choose an instrument, everyday wacky sounds and beats, and add them to a timeline. Your child’s creative and original sounds will then be mixed and ready for playback.

Playing “Global Groovin’” supports these important learning objectives:

• to encourage English and Spanish language acquisition
• to learn about the history, use of and general facts about cultural instruments and instrument sounds in the English and Spanish languages
• to support episode vocabulary
• to use music and technology in creative ways

• encourage your child to experiment with different musical instruments to discover his/her musical interests
• invite your child to experience various kinds of music from around the world
• learn a song together in a new language
• ask family members to share music memories, personal instruments and generational songs with your child
• use these ideas to create simple homemade instruments:
  • pots, pans and kitchen tools (drums)
  • pan lids (cymbals)
  • rice/small beans between two paper plates (tambourine)
  • water glasses filled at different levels and spoons (bells)
