Pet Shop Match-Up
"Pet Shop Match-Up" invites your child to learn the names of animals in American Sign Language (ASL) while practicing his or her concentration skills! The goal is to play Tito in a concentration card game by matching an animal with its ASL sign. Play until all of the cards are matched and a special message appears. This activity may be played in English or Spanish and on an easy level with six pairs to match or a harder level with eight pairs to match. Captioning is provided to allow deaf or hard of hearing players to follow along with Tito while also supporting beginning readers and second language learners.
Playing "Pet Shop Match-Up" supports these important learning objectives:
- to use communication in English, Spanish and American Sign Language
- to promote an appreciation of cultural diversity
- to use picture-word association
- to encourage the acquisition of American Sign Language
- to use memory building strategies
