A Safer Space for Kids

MySpace.com is one of the most popular places online for young people to meet and greet in cyberspace. But some adults worry that the site may also be attracting strangers with bad intentions. Their concern is that kids might be giving out too much personal information. In 33 states, government officials have threatened to sue MySpace unless it increases the minimum age for users from 14 to 16 years old.

In response to these demands to increase security for children, MySpace is developing new software called Zephyr that will allow parents to monitor basic information provided by their children in their profiles. MySpace representatives explain that many of the security features they use depend on kids telling them their true ages. So, if kids give fake information or say they are 18, Zephyr will not make them safer.

Zephyr will only allow parents to check the name, age, and location their kids are using. One thing it will NOT do is to allow parents to change their kids' profiles or read their emails. Safety is important, but privacy is too!

I'm Isaac and that's what happened in arts and tech this week.
