Usain Bolt is the Fastest Man Alive
Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt ran a perfect race in New York City recently. He won the 100 meter dash in 9.72 seconds setting a new world record. The holder of record also gets the nickname, "The Fastest Man Alive."
The race was only the fourth time he had ever run the 100 meter race. His specialty is the 200 meter. Last week he ran that distance at a race in the Czech Republic. He didn't set a record but he did run the fastest time so far this year.
Now Bolt has a big decision to make. He will run the 200 meters in Beijing at the Olympics this year. He won't say for sure whether or not he plans to run the 100 meters there as well. He thinks he may need to focus on that event. It has been the most important race to him since he broke the world junior record when he was 17. But many track stars compete in more than one event at the Olympic Games.
The Olympics began in Greece in 776 BC. Back then, they did ran a footrace called the Stadion, The 100 meter-long race was run in a building that was also called a Stadion, and that's where we got the English word for stadium. Good luck in the stadium in Beijing, Bolt!
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in Sports this week!
