Knee Injury Ends Season for Tiger
It looks like Tiger will not be on the prowl for a while. Tiger Woods announced that he is having knee surgery and will not play any more tournaments this year. Tiger tore a ligament in his knee 10 months ago while in training. Even though it hurt, he kept playing. He just won his third United States Open, despite his serious injury. Now he's taking the rest of the season off to have knee surgery.
Tiger will miss several important golf events including the British Open next month and the Ryder Cup this fall. The big question is whether Tiger will stay on top of his game after the operation. Most doctors think so.
The surgery that he's having is to repair a ligament. That's a tissue that connects the bones in a joint. We all have ligaments in our shoulders, knees, elbow, ankles--anywhere we have a joint. The ligament that Woods is having fixed connects the bones in his knee. Without that ligament, he probably feels pain and swelling. A surgeon will repair the torn ligament and then Tiger should be back to normal. Then he can continue his pursuit of the four major championships--the Masters, The US Open, The British Open and the PGA Championship. Good luck, Tiger! See you in 2009.
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in sports this week!
