Elvis Still Rules

Long live the king. Thirty years after his death Elvis Presley is still a superstar. Capping a weeklong tribute to Elvis, 38-year-old Shawn Kush was crowned the "Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist" on Friday. Elvis, er, I mean Shawn won the competition to be the official Elvis impersonator after a grueling sing-off of 23 other "tribute artists" in Memphis, Tennessee. Many of the aspiring Elvis imitators adopted the signature look of the artist: rhinestone-studded jumpsuits, slick jet-black hair, long sideburns. But Kush's rendition of Elvis hits "Viva Las Vegas" and "You Gave Me A Mountain" secured his victory.

The competition concluded Elvis Week, where thousands of Elvis fans flocked to Graceland to observe the 30th anniversary of his death. Despite scorching temperatures of up to 100 degrees, an estimated 75,000 Elvis fans from around the world -- New Jersey, Texas and even England -- descended on his Memphis home. The Elvis vigil tradition began on the first year anniversary of his death and it has grown ever since. During his lifetime, Elvis had 18 number one songs and appeared in 33 movies. He was also inducted into four musical halls of fame. His death did nothing to diminish his global appeal. 600,000 people visit Graceland each year. When it comes to famous homes, only the White House gets more visitors!
