Q is for Quincy the Kumquat
Do you like the letter Q? Steve Martin does; he likes what he calls the funny little do-dad at the bottom. Mr. Martin is a comedian, an actor, and an author. He recently wrote his first children's book-a picture book about the alphabet.
Mr. Martin worked with the illustrator Roz Chast to create a book called "From A to Y, with Bonus Letter Z." Chast draws humorous cartoons for the New Yorker magazine. Together they had fun coming up with rhymes for each letter of the alphabet.
Here's Q, for example: "Quincy the kumquat queried the queen Cleverly, quietly, without being seen." Each letter of the alphabet gets its own rhymes in the book.
Martin was a very popular stand-up comedian who hosted the TV show Saturday Night Live many times starting in the 1970s. Back then, he played a funny character that called himself a "wild and crazy guy." He also sang a wacky song about King Tut, who you will learn more about from Adelbert.
Martin said he's not sure why he wrote an alphabet book for kids. He's 62 years old. He doesn't have any children, but he still sometimes acts like one on TV. So it's no surprise that his alphabet book is wild and crazy AND funny too!
I'm Isaac and that's what happened in the arts this week.
See if you can Match Up the quirky cartoons to the right letters of the alphabet.
