d) Yes
Nebraska marble was the name jokingly given to the sturdy blocks of compacted sod used to build many pioneer homes. These soddies, as they were known, were small, often one room no larger than twelve by fourteen feet. But the homes stayed cool in the hot Nebraska summers and kept the heat in during the long, cold winters. Living in such a small house, you probably did not have much to do. Or did you? What would your typical day be like? a) Up early in the morning, milk the cows, feed the chickens, and help mend fences. b) Up early in the morning, toting water, digging potatoes, and tending the cows. c) Up early in the morning, feed and water the horses, and go fishing. d) Up early in the morning, help with breakfast, polish the furniture, and starch the shirts. |
