These were favorite past times of pioneer children. “Tumbleweed horses” were just that—pieces of tumbleweed that children would tie a piece of string or yarn to for a “halter” and then “ride” across the prairie. Like Native American children, children who lived on the frontier learned to use their imaginations when making toys.
