A Day In The Life
Native American Boy d) Yes
These are some of the chores for a young Sioux boy. By the age of five, you would have already learned how to use a bow and arrow to hunt. Later, you might begin to accompany warriors to help collect enemy arrows, preparing for the day when your tribe would actually go to war. If a boy showed a special talent for it, he might be trained to scout enemies or game. But many of these chores were also closely related to a Sioux boy’s playtime.

What was playtime like?

a) Playing “sheepmeat,” playing games of marbles, and picking berries.

b) Riding in buffalo rib sleds, racing ponies, and making tops out of acorns.

c) Swimming, taking care of “tumbleweed horses,“ and carving whistles from twigs.

d) Playing with checkers, jacks, or dolls.
