Second parents were members of the Sioux nation. Besides learning from your parents, young Sioux also had additional teachers like these. They would teach you how to be a good son or daughter, a brave warrior, and a good husband or wife. Everybody in the tribe helped in raising the children. If a child showed a special talent, he might be sent to study with the shaman, or medicine man or one of the skilled trackers or hunters. A young girl who was creative might be taught beadwork from someone who was very skillful at bead and weaving arts.
