Robotic Cat Named Japanese Ambassador
Picture a man in a suit. He's serious, and he's talking to a diplomat that works for his government. So far, so good. But there's one problem. The new diplomat is a giant blue robotic cat named Doraemon. This happened last week. The man in the suit was the foreign minister of Japan. The blue cat was a famous cartoon character and he's been made Japan's official animation ambassador.
The Japanese government is using the character to make friends around the world. In France, Spain, and China, the character will visit Japanese diplomatic offices and show his hit movie Nobita's Dinosaur 2006.
Manga, Japanese style comic books, are becoming popular all over the world. Doraemon first appeared in Japan in a comic book in 1969. He became a huge hit and the character has starred in movies and comic books ever since. Doraemon has a fourth dimensional pocket that he uses to hide gadgets, and he can travel through time.
The Japanese government hopes that traveling around Asia with the robotic cat and the actress who makes his voice will improve relations with other countries. It will use Doraemon to show the world what ordinary Japanese people think, their lifestyles, and what kind of future they want to build.
I'm Michelle and that's what happened in the world this week.
