China to Shoot Down Rain Before the Olympics
Last Thursday was Autism Awareness Day. Autism is a disorder in the brain that makes it hard to communicate. People with a severe case have trouble dealing with other people and taking care of themselves.
Doctors aren't sure what causes autism. People who are autistic might be quiet, or they might rock back and forth, or they might just repeat what other people say to them, instead of having a conversation. There are many different types and degrees of autism, but they all seem to share problem with social interaction. It's difficult for autistic people to understand how other people might be feeling or thinking.
Autism cases have been increasing in the United States. Some parents blame vaccinations. They think something in the vaccine caused the autism. For example, one two-year-old girl has extreme autism. She used to respond to her name, and she said mommy and daddy. She came down with a fever after getting a shot and then she never answered to her name, and still can't talk.
Doctors say that it's common for kids with autism to start off learning how to talk and then stop. Health experts say that studies show that vaccines do not cause autism. An autism case is going to court and a judge will decide if a vaccine had anything to do with the disorder.
I'm Adelbert and that's what happened in Science this week!
