Girl Single-handedly Wins Team Track Trophy

The Rochelle High School track team won the Texas 1A state title last week. Why is that big news? Because the track team was one person. Bonnie Richardson was the only student from her school who qualified for the meet, so she had to compete against entire teams all by herself.

Then Bonnie went ahead and won her school the girl's team trophy. It started with the high jump where she took first place by jumping 5 feet 5 inches. She also competed in the long jump and discus throw, plus the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Bonnie came in first, second or third in every event to give Rochelle High School 42 points. The second place team only had 36. When it was time to get the trophy, she stood alone and took the plaque.

What's even more amazing is that she proved that hard work is just about all you need to get ahead. Her school doesn't even have a track! Bonnie trained at a track 10 miles away. She's not just into track and field either. Bonnie plays for the school's championship basketball team, she plays tennis, and she'd even play football but her parents won't let her. Congratulations on the win, Bonnie, keep up the good work!

I'm Lucy and that's what happened in Sports this week!
