Scientists Predict Stormy Hurricane Season!

Hurricane season officially begins this week and experts worry that we may be in for some bad weather! The season starts on June 1st and lasts until November 30th. Forecasters expect seven to ten hurricanes. That's bad news for states along the Gulf of Mexico and the East Coast, where most hurricanes land.

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi coast, parts of Alabama, and put the city of New Orleans underwater. Two years later, and we're still rebuilding the damage.

Also in 2005, Hurricane Rita did billions of dollars in damage to Texas and Louisiana. It was the fourth most intense Atlantic hurricane ever!

After such a bad year in 2005, people prepared for the worst last year. Things turned out better than expected thanks to a warm current called El Nino. This year, there'll be no El Nino, so the hurricanes might be fiercer. Texas is twice as likely to be hit by a hurricane this season and Florida is four times as likely as they would be in an average year.

The National Weather Service is telling people who live in coastal areas to be prepared. We can't control the weather, but it helps to be ready.

I'm Adelbert and that's what happened in the weather this week!
