New Telescope to Take Photos of Far Way Galaxies
Have you ever wondered what goes on in a galaxy far, far away? You're not alone. Scientists are constantly trying to see farther into the universe. They use telescopes to find discover planets and watch stars form.
Telescopes on the ground can see far away, but the Earth's hazy atmosphere and light on the ground from cities limits how much we can see. But telescopes on satellites orbiting the earth are beyond earth's atmosphere. They can see things impossible to see from the ground. One called the Hubble Space Telescope has given us a glimpse of worlds many light years away.
Now NASA is talking about a new space telescope. The James Webb Space Telescope will be much bigger than the Hubble. At 72 feet, it's longer than a school bus. It'll orbit the earth from a million miles up! The telescope will see infrared light. Infrared is a wavelength of light that humans can't see. The telescope is named after James Webb. He ran NASA from 1961 until 1968. The telescope will launch in 2013. Who knows what it'll see from way up there?
I'm Adelbert and that's what happened in science this week!
Let's take a look at some images from Hubble and see if you can tell what they are in my Match Game!
