Bonds' Ball Worth Big Bucks!
As Barry Bonds' record-breaking 756th home run landed in the stands of the AT&T Park in San Francisco, nearly 30 fans wrestled to get their hands on the ball. Why? Because an ordinary baseball becomes a treasure when it's part of sports history!
When 21-year-old Matt Murphy came out of the pile with the baseball, he was in for a shock! "I won the lottery!" said Matt. He sure has! Auction house experts think it could fetch up to half a million dollars! Matt was on his way to Australia when he stopped to see the Giants' game and caught the ball. He hasn't decided whether to sell the ball or hold onto his piece of history for a while.
Matt's ball may sell for a lot, but its price is small change compared to other baseball collectibles. Mark McGwire's 70th home run ball, which smashed the single season record in 1998, sold for over 3 million dollars! Whoa!
An incredibly rare baseball card from 1910 featuring Honus Wagner sold for over 2 million dollars earlier this year. Then there's Babe Ruth's collectibles. The bat he used to hit his first home run sold for over 1.2 million! Awesome!
Fans will pay a lot of money for a piece of history. As for me, I'd be happy just to be there when it happens!
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in Sports this week!
