Record-breaking Rangers Clobber the Orioles

Fans at last week's game between the Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles witnessed history. The Rangers set an American League record by scoring 30 runs in a single game. It has been 110 years since a team scored so many runs in one game in the Major Leagues. In 1897 the Chicago Colts set the record of 36 runs when they beat the Louisville Colonels 36 to 7.

No one knew what was coming when the Rangers fell behind by three runs early in the game. But they roared back, scoring 5 runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. And then they just kept going, scoring 9 in the sixth, 10 in the eighth and 6 in the ninth to win 30 to 3. The high-scoring win was quite a turnaround for the Rangers who had only scored a total 28 runs in their last nine games put together.

The game was played in Baltimore's Camden Yards and hometown Oriole fans must have been wondering how things could be any worse. Well, they found out pretty quickly. The game was the first of a doubleheader and the Rangers won the second game too by a score of 9 to 7.
