The 7-7-07 Guide to Seven Wonders
Have you ever dreamed of traveling to the world's most wonderful places? For thousands of years, humans have been eager tourists. The Ancient Greeks wrote some of the oldest guidebooks. These described the most incredible man-made monuments of their time. One famous list, called the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, developed from these guides as early as 140 B.C. It includes such amazing sights as the Great Pyramid in Giza, Egypt and the hanging gardens in the city Babylon.
It seemed like these seven wonderful places would last forever but now, over 2000 years later, only the Great Pyramid is still standing. In 2001, a Swiss adventurer created a project to elect seven new wonders. The public can vote on the Internet for 7 out of 21 unique monuments around the world.
Among them are the beautiful Taj Mahal palace in India, prehistoric Stonehenge ruins in England, the Statue of Liberty in the United States, and the Great Wall of China. People around the world will be voting for their top seven. The winners will be announced on seven seven oh seven. That's July 7th of this year.
