My Friend Will Bee Right Back
Summary: Snook is feeling ticklish today, and puzzles over the cause until it flies right out of his fur – it’s a bee. An entranced Bob nicknames the bee Stripey and decides she will be his new best friend. He introduces her to everyone in the tree, but when a swarm of other bees appear looking for Stripey, Bob learns that she will have to leave. She is on her yearly migration and must move along with her swarm. Though Bob is sad to see Stripey go, he bids her a fond goodbye, knowing she will come to visit again on her next migration.

Learning to Fly

Learning to Fly
 
Summary: Winslow is determined to become the first marmoset to fly, ignoring everyone who tells him it’s impossible. He flaps his arms as hard as he can, but after he has no luck getting off of the ground in a flying contest with Burdette, he has to accept the fact that he never will be able to fly like a bird. After Snook explains the biological differences between birds and marmosets, Winslow realizes that everyone has their own way of getting around, and flying like a monkey (by swinging on vines) can be pretty fun too.

Curriculum Idea: Abilities – Each type of animal has a different set of abilities, which are common to all animals of that type.


Shell

Summary: Bob and Winslow are surprised to find that the cool rock they discovered isn’t a rock after all, but the shell home of a little fellow named Rocky. After learning that many animals, including Madge, find a home and protection in shells, Winslow decides he would benefit from having a shell of his own. Winslow experiments with living in a shell and Rocky visits the top of the tree, but they both learn there are reasons that marmosets live in trees and “Rockies” live in shells.

Curriculum Idea: Shells – Different creatures live in their own special places, and have different means of protection.

Spirit

Spirit
 
Summary: After a conversation with Madge about the World Tree, Smooch and Winslow become convinced that the tree has a spirit, and head off in search of it. Snook goes along with the monkeys as they ask all of their friends what and where they think the spirit of the tree is, and they learn a lot of great facts about the tree along the way. After finding out that everyone has their own ideas about the spirit, the monkeys decide that the best way for them to find the spirit is to enjoy the tree – by swinging through its branches.

Curriculum Idea: Trees – Tree biology and facts.


Out on a Limb

107 Out on a Limb / The More Things Change
 
Out on a Limb
Summary: It’s Winslow’s birthday and since he is a whole year older, he is ready for a brand new adventure, something no marmoset has done before. He’s going to climb all the way to the top of the World Tree. He sets off, visiting his friends along the way, but he doesn’t listen to their warnings to be careful. After getting stuck on a dangerous high branch, he is relieved when the search party, headed by Snook, rescues him, using a beautiful woven vine they made as a birthday present.

Curriculum Idea: Natural Limits – Every creature has different physical limits. There are some places in nature where only a few (or no) species can safely exist.

The More Things Change

The More Things Change
 
Summary: During a game of tag, Ick is distressed to find that he has grown too big to fit into his regular hiding spot. Smooch and Winslow are also upset when their favorite hiding branch falls from the tree, and everyone wonders why things can’t stay the same forever. But soon the friends find out about some of the positive aspects of change – Ick learns that he is not just bigger but also stronger, and Bob finds a new way to use the fallen branch that Smooch and Winslow can enjoy too. They realize that good things can come from change, and some things, like friendships, never need to change.

Curriculum Idea: Change – The world changes in some ways and stays the same in others. We also change in some says and stay the same in others. Changes may result in some losses, but also can offer unexpected opportunities and benefits.


Dancing

Dancing
Summary: After spending the night helping Bob sleep through his bad dreams, Snook is so tired that he forgets he is supposed to take Madge to visit her relatives. When Madge starts to wonder where the sleepy sloth could be, Smooch, Winslow, Bob, and Wartz band together to wake up him up. But each time they’re able to get Snook up, he just ends up falling asleep again. Finally, the friends realize that if they can keep him moving, he might stay awake, and soon everyone in the World Tree is dancing to the beat!

Curriculum Idea: Turtles – The migratory and social habits of turtles.


King of the Tree

King of the Tree
 
Summary: It’s a very rainy day in the World Tree. Snook loves the rain because it gives him a chance to take measurements with his rain bowls, but Bob is very upset at how soggy everything is getting. Things get worse for Bob when Ick convinces him that it will never stop raining, the water hole will flood the whole World Tree, and Ick will become King of the Tree. Bob starts to spread this rumor throughout the tree, but Snook is able to prove to everyone that the water levels aren’t rising by taking some scientific measurements, and Bob realizes that a little rain isn’t so bad, after all.

Curriculum Idea: Weather – We can observe changes in the weather, and these changes have impacts on animals and plants.
