Summary: Burdette’s feathers are falling out and she doesn't understand what's happening to her. Everyone has their own theory as to why, but Madge sets them straight and teaches them about molting.
Curriculum Idea: Molting – Some animals shed their skin or feathers at times as a natural part of the maturation process.

Summary: Snook agrees to forgo some nap time to see the block of ice Burdette has brought back from a mountaintop. But when they arrive, Burdette’s ice is gone and her nest is all wet, and she enlists Snook’s help to help her discover who’s to blame. After learning that it rained on the picnic Bob was planning under her branch, Burdette flies off to get a second block of ice and observe what happens to it. When the second block starts to shrink, Burdette and Snook head off to see Madge, who explains how water freezes into ice in cold weather and melts when it gets hot.
Curriculum Idea: States of Matter – Water comes in a variety of forms.

Summary: When Burdette convinces Bob that the ants would like him if he was more colorful, the anteater travels all around the tree collecting colorful items to wear. Eventually, Snook comes across a ridiculously dressed Bob and explains that animals are different colors for good reason. The color of Bob’s fur helps keep him safe by blending in with his surroundings. Convinced that he might be the right color after all, Bob decides to go back to his natural look and comes up with another way to show the ants how much he likes them – by writing them a poem!
Curriculum Idea: Natural camouflage – Different animals are different colors for different reasons.

Smooch’s Caterpillar |

Summary: Smooch wants her brother Winslow to meet her caterpillar friend Harry, but when the two marmosets go to see him, the find the little guy wrapped up in a mysterious chrysalis and wonder if they should help him get out. Snook takes them to go see Madge, who is in the middle of explaining to an overwhelmed Wartz that he can’t change back into a tadpole. All of the kids get a lesson about metamorphosis and how some physical changes can’t be undone. Wartz realizes he’s glad to be a frog, and the group goes to check on Harry, who has emerged as a beautiful butterfly.
Curriculum Idea: Metamorphosis – Some animals go through a metamorphosis. Some metamorphoses cannot be reversed.

Summary: Winslow is discouraged to discover that he’s not growing as fast as his sister Smooch, so he tries all kinds of grow-up-quick schemes: stretching, drinking lots of water, basking in the sun, but all he gets is tired. However, after having a dream where he grows too big, and receiving a lesson from Madge about how he is maturing he decides that he is fine just the size he is.
Curriculum Idea: Growth, Getting Bigger – Living things grow at different rates. In addition to getting bigger, mental development is another part of growing up.

The Five Senses |

Summary: Smooch and Winslow have just learned about the five senses from Snook when they run into Bob, who heard a scary noise the night before. Smooch uses all of her senses to help Bob discover the source of the noise, which turns out to be coming from a sleeping (and snoring!) Oko.
Curriculum Idea: Senses – We have at least five senses: sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste. Investigating by using different senses is a good way to gather information and for “finding out.”

Summary: Wartz decides to quit hopping, but soon he isn't feeling very well. When Snook explains to him that exercise helps you feel good, the two visit their friends to see how each animal likes to exercise, and Wartz realizes how much he loves his old familiar hopping after all.
Curriculum Idea: Exercise – We need both activity and rest to be healthy. Sometimes we get energy from being active.

Hot Enough for You? |

Summary: There is no breeze in the hot World Tree and Winslow hypothesizes that if he can find out who in the tree is cool, he will know who has taken the missing breeze. He goes to visit the other animals, learning how everyone handles the heat, but he can’t find the breeze thief anywhere. Finally, Snook explains that if there isn’t air moving from one place to another as part of the weather, there isn’t any wind to make a breeze. But there is something they can do to beat heat – take a nap!
Curriculum Idea: Weather – The weather impacts much of what we do. Animals are different so they need different strategies for dealing with the weather.
