Books

I saw a book on the show, but I can't find it anywhere. Why is that?
Some episodes of Between the Lions feature books created specifically for the program, so they are not available for sale.

Which episodes are based on real books?
See our list of Books Featured on the Show. If you're looking for a book and it's not on this list, then the book was created for a specific episode and is not available.

Can I get a list of recommended books?
You sure can. On our Recommended Books page, we suggest books for reading aloud, books about reading for parents and teachers, as well as books featured on our show.

Why don't the recommended books have age suggestions with them?
The books in Recommended Books are not grouped by age because different children of any given age often have different reading skills. The books listed should be available in your local library, local bookstore, or online bookstore. Your local children's librarian or bookstore salesperson can point you to books that would be at the appropriate level.

Why don't you list the publication dates or ISBN numbers on your book list?
Most of the books we suggest have at least four different editions-softcover, hardcover, library edition, and school press edition-and the classics often have many more editions. The title, author, and primary publisher should enable you to find the books at your library, school, or book retailer.

Can I recommend a book to feature on your show?
Currently, we are not seeking recommendations for books, and we do not review unsolicited manuscripts.

Are there any Between the Lions books?
A series of Between the Lions books were originally published by Golden Books, but they are no longer available at most bookstores. The Between the Lions Book for Parents, chock full of information, activities, and tips for parents, is available through shop.wgbh.org.
