What's the music on "Charlie Parker played be bop"?
Chris Raschka, the author of "Charlie Parker played be bop," wrote the words to accompany the tune of "Night in Tunisia," the wonderful jazz standard. On the show, you hear the song (written by John "Dizzy" Gillespie and Frank Paparelli) as performed by The Quintet on the album "Jazz at Massey Hall." The musicians are Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bud Powell, Charlie Mingus, and Max Roach.

Can I download your songs onto my computer?
Yes! Visit our Lions To Go area for free downloads.

Are printable lyrics available?
We don't have printable lyrics, but all the songs on the site are captioned, so you can see the lyrics when you watch the songs.

Do you have the lyrics to "Silent e"?

    It's a plan!
    It's a plane!
    It's Silent E Man!

    These vowels have a problem
    And Silent E's to blame
Instead of aah, eh, ih, aw, uh
He makes them say their name.

He's changed their sounds to ay and ee
And aye and oh and you
    With powers like that
Just think of all the damage he can do.

    Silent E
He turns this cub into a cube
    Silent E
He turns this tub into a tube

He changed this twin to twine
He changed this can into a cane,
And this brave man must stop him
    Before he strikes again!

Okay, Silent e, your vowel-sound changing days are over! I'm carting you off to the slammer!
But, of course, you have the right to remain silent . . .

    Look, a note from Silent e! It says . . .

    ----------------------

"I love that pin you're wearing!
I'd love to have a closer look!
Gee, thanks so much for sharing!"

    "Well, sure, I don't see any harm in that . . ."

    Silent e
He knew that pin would do just fine
    Silent e
He's changed it to a pine!

    Silent e
    Our story's sad but true
    He's escapin' out the window
And there's nothing we can do!

"Oh no! What a tragic ending! Silent e is free once again to make poor, helpless vowels say their own names!"

"Well, Silent e, you may have slipped out of my grasp this time. But mark my words, I'll get you yet!"

    ------------------------

"I love that cap you're wearing!
I'd love to have a closer look!
Gee, thanks so much for sharing!"

    "Well, sure, I don't see any harm in that . . ."

    Silent e
He changed that cap into a cape
    Silent e
    He's making his escape

    Silent e
    Our story's sad but true
    He's flyin' out the window
And there's nothing we can do!

"Oh no! What a tragic ending! Silent e is free once again to make poor, helpless vowels say their own names!"

"Well, Silent e, you may have slipped out of my grasp this time. But mark my words, I'll get you yet!"
