Perfect Season for the Patriots

They did it! The New England Patriots defeated the New York Giants 38-35 to finish the regular season with a perfect 16 and 0 record. The Pats became the first undefeated team in the National Football League since the Miami Dolphins won all of their 14 regular season games in 1972.

New England won, but it wasn't easy. The Giants were leading by 12 points in the second half before Patriot quarterback Tom Brady led his team on a comeback. The big play was a 65-yard touchdown bomb to wide receiver Randy Moss which put the Patriots ahead to stay. That was Brady's 50th touchdown pass of the season which broke Peyton Manning's record. And it was Moss's 23rd touchdown catch giving him the single season record ahead of Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice. The Patriots also set a new mark for points in a season with 589!

What's next for the Patriots? The playoffs of course. After a week of rest they will try to do what the Dolphins did in 1972 -- follow a perfect regular season with three playoff wins. If they can do that, they will be crowned Superbowl champions for the fourth time in the last seven years. Wow!

I'm Lucy and that's what happened in Sports this week!
