Prepared Boy Scout Saves President
A Boy Scout made the news last week when he saved his president's life. It happened in the Republic of Maldives (MALL-dives), which is a nation of islands in the Indian Ocean. The president got off a boat to shake people's hands and a man jumped out of the crowd with a knife.
Mohammed Jaisham Ibrahim grabbed the knife from the dangerous man before he could hurt the president. The 15-year-old said he acted out of instinct and that things happened so quickly he didn't have time to think about the danger. The attacker cut the young hero's hand, but he's going to be OK.
The president of the Maldives thanked the Boy Scout for saving his life. The government is considering giving him an award for his brave act. It isn't clear why the man tried to kill the president. Some people think the attacker had extreme religious views, but other people say he might have wanted an opposing political party to have power. The Maldives are south of India, southwest of Sri Lanka and west of Indonesia. About 300,000 people live there, making it the smallest Muslim nation in the world.
I'm Michelle and that's what happened in the world this week.
