Governor Schwarzenegger Wants Health Care for Everyone
The governor of California has big plans to make his state the healthiest in America. Arnold Schwarzenegger is proposing a plan for universal health care that would provide medical insurance for 6.5 million Californians who don't have it now.
Why is this so important? Health insurance is what helps pay for doctor visits. Many people have jobs, but their companies do not provide health insurance. When someone in their family gets sick they must pay for doctors, hospital visits, and medicine. And sometimes these costs can really pile up.
This is a problem not just in California, but all over the country. And no one is hurt more by this than the eight million children in the U.S. whose families don't have health insurance. Without it, seeing a doctor might be too expensive.
If Governor Schwarzenegger succeeds, everyone in California, including all children, would have health insurance. Part of his plan is to expand health care clinics in elementary schools. "With health clinics at our schools, kids won't fall through the cracks," said the governor. "They'll get the preventive care and the primary care they need."
I'm Ben and that's what happened in the nation this week.
