Sid "the Kid" the Youngest Ever to Join the All-Star Team
Hockey fans have chosen Pittsburgh Penguins' Sidney Crosby to start in the 2007 National Hockey League All-Star game. The fans' top pick, Sid "the kid" is the youngest player ever to be selected. Although he is only 19 years old, Sidney received more votes than any other player - 825,783 votes!
The All-Star game is a match played in the middle of the NHL season. This year the game is being held in Dallas on January 24th. It is an exhibition game that pits some of the best players across the nation against each other. It's an East versus West match-up featuring players from teams like the Penguins, the Buffalo Sabres, and San Jose Sharks.
Sidney will start as center for the Eastern Conference in the lineup. Sidney began playing hockey at the age of two in his native Canada. Seventeen years later, he leads the league in goals with 65 points in 38 games. Last year as a rookie, Sidney became the youngest player in the NHL to score 100 points in one season. He may be a kid, but Sid the Pennsylvania Penguin plays like a pro.
I'm Lucy and that's what happened in the sports this week.
